Meet Chef
Chef Mark began his career in restaurants at the age of 15 working in restaurant kitchens washing dishes as summer jobs. The dishwashing jobs led to cooking in some of those same restaurants. He returned to those kitchens each summer throughout his High School years.
Although he did attend college obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fine Art and Art History, Chef Mark had already committed to a career in restaurants. He began cooking professionally in Washington DC immediately after graduating from college.

What’s the difference between a private chef and a personal chef?
A private chef is employed exclusively by an individual or family full-time. A personal chef typically has several clients and may also do catering and events on the side. Both personal and private chefs provide an array of services that are based on their client’s particular needs, desires and dietary requirements. Chef Purdy is a private chef.
Is having a private chef right for me?
A private chef is employed full time, exclusively for one client. This isn’t just for celebrities and professional athletes. Business professionals, fitness enthusiasts, people with dietary concerns and busy families all benefit from hiring a private chef.
How Does Chef Purdy Know What to Cook?
Your diet is my first order of business. In the initial consultation, we will go over all of your dietary requirements and personal preferences. We will use this information to build your menus. Menus will be prepared daily or weekly for you to approve in advance.
Where do you source ingredients?
Chef Purdy sources the highest-quality ingredients for your meals. All ingredients are sourced from organic markets, specialty purveyors or shipped in from around the world as needed. Chef Purdy will handle all of the procurement for your menus.
What’s included when hiring a private chef?
Initial consultation, customized menu planning, grocery shopping, kitchen management, cooking, kitchen clean-up, packaging, labeling, and storage.
Are groceries included when hiring a private chef?
No, groceries are paid for separately from the chef’s fee. This is to ensure you receive fine, organic meats, produce and pantry ingredients.
Can I add additional dishes to what my chef suggests?
Absolutely. You can always add an extra side, salad or soup if you feel you need a little extra.
Does a private chef make special food for children?
Yes. Chef Purdy will consider everyone’s tastes when menu planning. This will be reviewed in the initial consultation.
Can Chef Purdy cater an event in my home such as a dinner party?
Yes. If we are working together on a long-term basis, Chef Purdy can prepare and execute an event for up to 12 people. This includes any holiday event you may want to host. For larger events, Chef Purdy will be happy to assist with sourcing catering teams.
